Readings held or stale

Why a value is HELD, the horizons involved, sensor fault and stuck alerts, DHT disagreement, and rejected readings.

HELD is a label, not a fault

A HELD chip means the desk is showing the last good value because nothing fresher has arrived within the stale horizon. Hover it for the age. It becomes a fault only when an alert says so.

Work out which source is quiet

  • Room and tent temperature, RH, VPD: the hub's sensors. If everything is HELD at once, see Hub offline.
  • Canopy, intake, exhaust, outdoors: a placed Zigbee or Tuya sensor. Past its stale window (Settings › Sensors › Placed sensor stale window, 30 min by default) it drops out. Battery, range, or the coordinator (see Zigbee radio down).
  • Moisture, EC, pH, soil °C: a probe. See Probe dark or faulted.
  • Tank: the water tester over Tuya.

Alerts that go with it

  • Climate sensor fault / Root-zone probes (critical): the hub does not trust its own sensor. Failsafe may follow.
  • Climate sensor stuck (critical): the value has not changed for too long; the ladder would steer on a stale number.
  • Climate reading rejected (critical): outside the plausible clamps. Check the sensor, not the clamps first.
  • DHT disagreement: the two tent sensors differ by more than the threshold; one alert names both zones. Compare with a hand meter and set an offset under Settings › Sensors for the one that is off.

Browser-side horizons

When the desks draw HELD and when a flapping device is called offline are Preferences (Reading stale horizon, Offline cooldown). They change what you see, not what the kit does. A phone with a slow connection can show HELD that a laptop on the LAN does not.
