Maintenance, calibration, health and snooze
Every device page keeps a short record of how the device is doing and what it needs from you. This page covers health, maintenance, calibration, the recurring test and the rules for snoozing.
● Running on our test kit: 9.10.0 · kit firmware 9.0.0.0 · last report 22 Oct 2026
Status: Live. On by default in brain 9.9.0.

The device page
On the Devices screen, choose a device’s name. The page has these sections, in order: Health, How sure is the model, Run it now, Life and maintenance, Calibration schedule, Recurring test, Second observer, and a collapsed Details line. “How sure is the model” is explained on The model inspector. “Run it now” is explained on Timed runs.
Health
Health is advice. It never takes a device out of service and never writes to a device. Only a missed reaction after a command stops a device. Health shows one of four words:
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| WATCH | One window of checking was flagged. |
| ACTING DODGY | Two or more windows in a row were flagged. This is advice, and the device stays in service. |
| FAILED | The check’s own failure line was reached. |
| HEALTH UNKNOWN | There is not enough to judge. No data is never read as healthy. |
If everything is clear the section says “No problem is raised for this device (source: alert list and health list, read just now).” A problem row reads like “Health failed: flatline”, then the evidence, “since 3 h ago” and its source. The Why feed shows the same four states as chips.
Three checks exist today:
- Flatline. A probe’s EC, pH or temperature is stuck while the same reading on other probes moved. The windows are 6 hours for EC and pH and 2 hours for temperature.
- Held by another. A Tuya device’s relay state differs from the brain’s last command, or its link was down while other Tuya devices were live. Tuya devices accept one local connection at a time, so another app can hold one.
- Link speed against peers. It reads unknown until a true round trip is measured. It never judges from poll time.
Life and maintenance
This section lists only what is due, overdue or close. If nothing is, it says “Nothing is due or coming up. Only items that are due, overdue or close are listed.” That is different from having no maintenance data.
Each class has its own tasks. A task is due by the calendar, by how much the device has handled (the volume of water, for example), by conditions (such as hours of high humidity), or by runs. For example, a humidifier has a daily drain and rinse and a wick to replace. A dehumidifier has a tank to empty and a filter to wash. A carbon filter has a bed to check. A soil probe has a two-point calibration for each run.
Each item has one-tap buttons that fit the task: Done, Replaced, Cleaned, Calibrated, Refilled and Skipped. A calibration offers Calibrated and Skipped. The line then says “Recorded: done.”, or why it was not recorded.
Today due
The same items appear in a band called “Today due” on Issues and on Today. Each has Done and a Snooze button. Done writes the service record with today’s date and reads it back. The line says “Done on” the date and “Next due in N days”, or says what is still true. If the brain’s list still shows the item, the line says so and does not call it done.
A calibration that names what it calibrates, such as a soil probe, a tank, a fan or a light, also has Start, which opens the guided steps. After a calibration the screen can offer “Confirm with a test”, with the action to do.
Calibration schedule
This section shows only calibration items that are due. With none, it says “No calibration is due. The schedule shows what is due or coming up.”
Recurring test
For every reading bound to the device, “Test now” starts a test. The screen tells you the action. It then says “Waiting for you to do it”, and the result stays open until the brain sees the reaction or its window runs out. It ends as “Passed: the reaction was seen.” or “Not passed:” with the reason.
| Meaning | Action | Window | Repeats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water leak | Wet the sensor now | 120 s | 30 days |
| Tank full | Lift the float or open the contact | 120 s | 30 days |
| Door / contact open | Open the door | 60 s | No |
| Motion | Wave in front of the sensor | 60 s | No |
| Lamp on (from power draw) | Switch the lamp on | 60 s | No |
Temperature and humidity have no action test.
The same section has “Power-on behaviour: unknown until tested”. It stays unknown until you test it: cut the power, put it back, and say what you saw. Choose “Power is cut”, then “Power is back”, then pick one: “It comes back ON by itself”, “It stays OFF until switched on” or “It returns to what it was doing before”. Choose “Record it”. If it is not recorded, it stays unknown.
“Second observer” explains that a metering plug on this device gives the brain a second, independent view of whether it is really running.
Snooze
A snooze is always visible, always has an end, and can only be created by you. No automation can snooze anything. If an item is raised to a more severe tier, a snooze stops applying at once. A safety item cannot be snoozed. You can silence its sound for up to 15 minutes. It stays listed and counted, and a false alarm never loosens it.
| Tier | Device page | Issues screen and Today due |
|---|---|---|
| Safety | Silence the sound for 5 or 15 min | Silence the sound 15 min |
| Needs attention soon | 30 min or 1 hour (the most allowed). A reason is needed. | 15 min or 1 h |
| Affects the grow | 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day or 7 days (the most allowed) | 1 h, 6 h, 1 day or 7 days |
| Housekeeping | 4 hours, 1 day, 7 days or 30 days | 1 day, 7 days or 30 days |
When a reason is needed you pick one: I know the cause, Part on order, Working on it, False alarm: sensor, False alarm: threshold, Not something I can change, or Other. The line afterwards says “Snoozed. The brain has stored it and will bring it back.”
On Sundays the Today band lists everything still silenced, with when each ends and an “End now” button.
