DSC-BRAIN USER GUIDE · USING THE DASHBOARD

Issues: the one icon

Issues is the one place for everything that needs a look. A single icon in the top bar shows how many are active and how serious the worst is. The Issues screen explains each one: what the brain saw, why it matters and what to do.

●  Running on our test kit: 9.10.0 · kit firmware 9.0.0.0 · last report 22 Oct 2026

Status: Live. On by default in brain 9.9.0.

The icon

The icon is in the top bar on every screen. Its shape shows the severity, not just its tint.

Shape Means
Outline bell No issue is active.
Dot Info.
Outline triangle Warning.
Filled triangle Critical.
Filled triangle with a bar Safety.
A question mark badge The brain’s alert list is not fresh, so the screen cannot say none. This is not an all-clear.

A number shows how many are active. Beside it is one line naming the worst issue. A screen reader hears, for example, “Issues: 2 active, worst warning”. The list counts as known only while it is fresh. The brain is asked every 30 seconds, and a list older than 90 seconds is treated as unknown. A silent brain reads unknown. It never reads 0.

The dropdown

Click the icon. It shows up to six lines, worst first, each with its shape, its title and how long it has been going. After six it says “See all” and the number. The heading reads like “Issues · 3 (1 snoozed)”. With nothing active it says “Nothing needs a look.” Notices such as a new version, or an unplugged camera, sit in the same list with their own button.

The Issues screen

Issues is the fourth item in the main bar. It opens with “Today due”, the maintenance items (see Maintenance, calibration, health and snooze). Then comes “Issues · N”, grouped by how urgent they are:

  • Safety.
  • Needs attention soon.
  • Affects the grow.
  • Housekeeping.

Snoozed or acknowledged items follow in their own list. If the list is stale, a banner says “This list is stale” and tells you not to read a short or empty list as all-clear. If it cannot be read at all, the screen says it is unavailable and that this is not an all-clear.

One card

On the card What it says
Title, shape and urgency What it is. A muted chip “known · fix scheduled” with a date shows a fix that is planned. It is never dismissed.
Seen What the brain observed. If it did not say: “Unavailable: the brain did not say what it measured.”
Why Why it matters.
What to do The written guidance, which every alert the brain raises has. Only an alert the guide does not know yet says “No written guidance for this alert yet.”
Possible causes The causes the brain listed. If it listed none, the written likely causes for that alert. If there are neither: “Not diagnosed yet: the brain listed no causes.”
Details A collapsed line with the technical reference, the cause key and the source. The alert catalogue is described on Alert catalogue.

An issue about light or water shows the latest camera frame of the affected space, with its age. If no camera is bound to that space, the card says so. A blank or covered camera frame reads unknown, never dark.

Some cards offer “Run 5 min”, “Run 15 min” and “Run 1 h” for the device concerned. Safety issues, and issues fixed at the device, such as a heater running away, a mismatch, smoke, gas or a wet floor, never offer a run. See Timed runs.

Acknowledge and snooze

  • Acknowledge. It hides the item until the hub next starts. The condition itself is untouched. It is offered only for catalogue alerts that are not in the Safety group. “Un-acknowledge” brings it back.
  • Snooze, or Silence for Safety. The choices depend on the group. They are listed on Maintenance, calibration, health and snooze.
  • Pinned alarms. A few alarms cannot be snoozed or acknowledged. They include a heater or heat mat running away, and a lamp lit in a flower dark period. The card says “This alarm is pinned: it cannot be snoozed.”

After every change the card says what the brain’s own list now shows, for example “Applied. The brain’s list shows it snoozed.” If the list does not show it, the card says so.

Phone alerts

Push notifications to a phone are built and off by default. They are not set up on the reference kit.
